A Double Minded Man Is Unstable In All His Ways
By Makayla Thompson
James 1:8 says, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” I want us to really look into this scripture closely. Let’s break this scripture into sections. The scripture starts by saying “A double minded man...” What is your own definition of a double minded man? A double minded man is someone who’s face is facing both towards God and towards Lucifer at the same time. A double minded man is someone who is indecisive in their spiritual walk. The word indecisive means not having or showing the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively. Notice that it is an ability to not be indecisive. Also, notice that people who are indecisive don’t make quick and effective decisions. Knowing this we can infer that it may take time for a double minded man to make an effective decision. In this case, it may take time for a double minded man to make the effective decision of fully submitting himself to Christ. Basically, a double minded man is someone who is face is facing both towards God and towards Lucifer at the same time (they are indecisive in their spiritual walk). Are you double minded? Doth ye not know ye cannot serve God and mammon? Jesus says in Matthew 6:24, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” As Jesus said no man can serve two masters. We either completely hate and despise one and completely love and hold onto the other. We cannot serve God 50%. We have to serve him 100% God hates when people serve him 50%. God says in Isaiah 1:13-17, “When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts? Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them. And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.” He wants you to be either cold or hot.
