Why Are We So Selfish?

Why are we humans so selfish and self-centered? Why don’t we care about others? We are so selfish, we only care about ourselves. We are only focused on our jobs, our future, our school, our life, our children, etc. We never care about others who are in pain, broken, suffering, alone (James 5:16 & Luke 4:18). We never care about the people who are lost sheep (Luke 15:4-7 & John 21:15-17). We don’t care about the people who are spiritually hungry or thirsty (Matthew 25:42-46 & Luke 16:19-31). We won’t help the people we know Satan is attacking. We even go into the presence of God with a selfish mindset. We always want God to do something for us and not us do something for him. Now this is a very dangerous mindset.
Having this selfish mindset and lifestyle can affect the Kingdom. Being selfish can stop us from helping others spiritually, physically, and mentally. This selfishness is from Lucifer. He’s been selfish from the beginning. If he wasn’t selfish then why would he ruin all of humanity just for himself to be seen as more powerful than God. So being selfish is clearly a trait from Satan. If you claim to be a child of God you cannot be selfish. Jesus and Satan have nothing in common. You cannot have both characteristics if you claim to be a follower of Christ.
Philippians 2:4, Ecclesiastes 4:10, 1 Corinthians 13:4-6, Philippians 2:21 all talk about not being selfish so why do we still do it. The answer is because we are selfish and disobedient. We only care about ourselves. When was the last time we even went to church hoping to hear something to help someone else and not just ourselves? When was the last time we even helped someone else? We won’t even spread the gospel to the beggars because we are so selfish and it will be our fault that so many people will be going to hell (Luke 16:31). In Hosea 4:6 God says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”
People are perishing for lack of knowledge that we won't give them because we are so selfish. When was the last time we seriously prayed for someone else, for their spiritual safety? We need to start caring for people as much as we care about ourselves. When will we start to care? It will be too late. Jesus can come any second. Are you going to be ashamed, selfish, and scared or are you going to be bold and caring? If you don’t care about others then you are not of God. Jesus died and took the beating for all of us. And you won’t even do the same for just one person. When will we stop being selfish? We cannot be ashamed while living for Jesus (Romans 1:16). Live boldly. Live every single day like it is the last day of your life. And I don’t mean in a worldly way, I mean in a godly way.
In John 13:34-35, Jesus said, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” But no, we don’t do this so people see us as haters and mean people. Do God’s will. This will make God happy if we just stopped being selfish. Repent of your deeds now. God Bless You. Amen!
